William J. Schroeder set a record Sunday for living 113 days on an artificial heart, surpassing pioneer Barney Clark, who died in 1983 after spending 112 days with his mechanical heart. Murray P. Haydon, Schroeder’s fellow bionic heart patient, notched his first month of life on a mechanical pump with improved breathing and brief trips out of bed, said Linda Broadus, spokeswoman for Humana Hospital Audubon in Louisville, Ky.
