Hahn Endorsed by Law Officers

City attorney candidate James Hahn Wednesday received the endorsements of the Los Angeles Police Protective League and the Assn. for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs.

Both groups represent the rank-and-file members of the city and county law enforcement agencies.

In a city attorney’s race in which each candidate wants to be seen as a tough prosecutor, endorsements by the two law enforcement organizations are considered important for Hahn, now the city controller.

One of his rivals, attorney Lisa Specht, already has received the endorsement of Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner and Atty. Gen. John Van de Kamp, while candidate Murray Kane has attacked Hahn’s prosecutorial record when Hahn was a deputy city attorney.

Law enforcement officers who endorsed him “know the difference between paying lip service to the issue of criminal prosecution and the actual tough job of prosecuting criminals,” Hahn said.
