Awards Competition Honors Newspapers

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Fort Worth Star-Telegram was named winner of the National Headliner Award for public service Wednesday for its reporting on a fatal design defect in military helicopters.
Detroit Free Press reporter Dolly Katz was named the outstanding investigative reporter, said the Press Club of Atlantic City, which sponsors the competition.
The contest’s judging panel, composed of newspaper editors and publishers from across the country, gave a special citation to the Los Angeles Times for outstanding endeavor in the field of communications for its coverage of the 1984 Olympic Games.
The Times’ Dennis McDougal won an award for a “consistently outstanding special column” for his column, “On The Radio,” said Herb Brown, chairman of the National Headliner awards committee.
