A South African who claimed to be related to Elvis Presley was convicted in Los Angeles federal court of obtaining false documents in the name of the late singer in an attempt to prove he was a U.S. citizen. Earl Reginald Stevenson, who claimed his real name was Earl Presley, was convicted of two counts of obtaining false evidence of citizenship and one count of making a false statement to a government agency. U.S. District Judge Consuelo B. Marshall scheduled sentencing for April 22. Investigators told the court that Stevenson arrived in the country in 1978, joined the Marines and became a model military man.
