Nissan’s first American-made passenger car came off the assembly line today less than two years after Japan’s No. 2 auto maker began U.S. production of light pickup trucks.

Marvin Runyon, president of Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corp. USA, drove the blue two-door Sentra through a red-and-white banner surrounded by blue-uniformed plant workers. The car will go on permanent display at the $745-million plant 20 miles southeast of Nashville.
