Ground workers for Pan American World Airways began voting on a proposed contract that, if passed, could end the nearly monthlong strike that has severely cut the airline’s daily operations. The 5,800 Transport Workers Union members--mechanics, baggage handlers and flight dispatchers who walked off the job Feb. 28--began casting their ballots on a tentative settlement reached Saturday. Terms of the agreement were not released by either side. Results were not expected until tonight or Thursday morning.
