A woman who says her made-up story sent a man to prison for rape six years ago explained that she admitted her lie because “his life was worth more than my keeping silence.” The woman, a mother of two, now lives in a small town in New Hampshire. In an affidavit filed in court in Chicago, the woman said her maiden name was Cathleen Crowell, but she declined to give her married name, saying she feared the publicity. Gary Dotson, 28, was convicted in Chicago in 1979 of rape and aggravated kidnaping after the woman testified he had raped her in 1977.
