CCDC Opens New Center for Information
Hoping to make San Diegans aware of downtown’s attractions, the Centre City Development Corp. (CCDC) Friday opened a new public information center in the Senator Building at 119 W. F St.
“The center is for the average San Diego resident,” said Kathy Kalland, CCDC public information director. “It is not geared toward tourists. We do not want it to become a tourist destination point.”
Formerly located on the sixth floor of the Spreckels Building, the Downtown Information Center is part of an ongoing effort by the CCDC to encourage local residents and business owners to patronize downtown services. It is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends.
CCDC is a public, nonprofit agency founded by the city in 1977 to plan, implement and direct redevelopment activities in downtown San Diego.
The center receives from 100 to 150 requests for information each month, Kalland said. It also provides downtown bus tours and plans excursions on foot.
