Services Sunday for Longtime Balboa Islander Mina Hershey

Share

Memorial services will be conducted Sunday for longtime Balboa Island merchant Mina Hershey, who died Thursday at age 92 after a bout with lymphoma.

Mrs. Hershey and her husband, Anton, founded Hershey’s Market in 1928 and later built a small restaurant on what was then just a remote, sandy village. After her husband’s death in 1971, Mrs. Hershey managed the store for eight more years until she sold the landmark establishment and retired.

The services will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Church Congregational, 611 Heliotrope Ave., Corona del Mar.

Survivors include Mrs. Hershey’s daughter, Ruth Finley of Newport Beach. The Times reported incorrectly in Friday’s edition that Huntington Beach resident and City Councilwoman Ruth Finley was the surviving daughter.
