A Superior Court hearing scheduled for Monday...

A Superior Court hearing scheduled for Monday to determine who will be Mayor Roger Hedgecock’s defense attorney was postponed until April 10. Prosecutors and Hedgecock’s current attorney, Michael Pancer, said last week they would seek the postponement because of renewed private negotiations over a possible plea bargain to settle the mayor’s felony conspiracy and perjury case out of court. The negotiations took a serious turn last week when Superior Court Judge Ross G. Tharp ordered 13 attorneys and prominent businessmen into his chambers to hammer out resolutions of the criminal case and a $1.2-million civil lawsuit filed against Hedgecock and several supporters by the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission. Tharp is on vacation in Mexico until next Monday.
