Legislation granting state lawmakers a 10% pay raise beginning Dec. 1, 1986, after the next general election, was signed by Gov. George Deukmejian. Legislative salaries will increase from $33,732 to $37,105 a year starting with the 1987-88 session. Members of the Assembly and Senate received their last pay increase on Dec. 3. In contrast to previous efforts to increase lawmaker salaries, the bill by Assemblyman Louis J. Papan (D-Millbrae) shot through both houses virtually without controversy.
