3 Detroit Children Safe as Police Seize Gunman

DETROIT —
A gunman demanding money and a car invaded an elementary school Tuesday and held three children hostage for four hours before policemen captured him. The two boys and a girl were unharmed, a police spokesman said.
Hundreds of persons milling about the scene broke into applause when the gunman, who police said was armed with a sawed-off rifle, was removed.
