Supervisors Oppose Pacoima Liquor Store

Share

The county Board of Supervisors has joined community leaders in Pacoima in opposing the issuance of a new liquor sales permit in an area already overrun with liquor stores.

The board voted unanimously Tuesday to oppose the sale of alcohol and beverages at a liquor store proposed for a vacant lot in the 13100 block of Paxton Street in Pacoima, noting that the site is a block from three existing liquor stores and within a block of an elementary school.

Neighborhood opposition to the liquor store proposal has been widespread, Supervisor Mike Antonovich said. County officials said they will forward a copy of the board’s resolution to the state Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control in Van Nuys, which is considering the liquor permit application.

With its vote, the board supported the efforts of Los Angeles City Councilman Howard Finn, in whose district the liquor store would be situated. Finn has opposed the application.
