Chrysler Corp. will pay a $1.5-million fine to settle a government civil suit alleging that the No. 3 auto maker dumped excessive amounts of assembly plant wastes into public sewer systems, the Justice Department said today.

The department said that a civil complaint alleging violations of the Clean Water Act was filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit, and that it was accompanied by a proposed consent decree signed by company executives.
