Yutaka Enatsu, the 37-year-old left-hander from Japan, has been released by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Interpreter Don Nomura, reached at the Brewers’ spring training camp in Sun City, Ariz., Wednesday night, said Enatsu had been told that he was not being retained. “He says he will take a couple of days off to think about what he will do,” Nomura said.
Enatsu, one of the greatest pitchers in the history of Japanese baseball, won 216 games and saved 196 during a 17-year career in the Far East. He was attempting to make the Brewers’ roster as a relief pitcher.
Against the Angels Tuesday, he pitched two innings and gave up four hits and two earned runs. He did not pitch for the Brewers against Seattle Wednesday.
Last year in Japan, Enatsu’s salary reportedly was 75 million yen, about $330,000.
