Federal authorities are investigating a report that subway shooter Bernhard H. Goetz may have tried to buy a gun in Florida while he was under indictment on gun possession charges, the U.S. attorney said in New York. Federal agents have obtained records indicating Goetz bought two guns in Orlando last fall and later made an unsuccessful attempt to buy another, said U.S. Atty. Rudolph Giuliani. His comments followed a report in the Orlando Sentinel in which a gun shop owner was quoted as saying he turned down a man who tried to buy a gun about three weeks ago, and later recognized the man as Goetz.
