Congressman’s Widow Sworn In for House Seat

WASHINGTON — Cathy Long (D-La.), who was elected to complete the term of her late husband, Rep. Gillis Long, was sworn in Thursday in a brief ceremony in the chamber of the House.
Speaker Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill Jr. (D-Mass.), administered the oath of office after Long, 61, received a standing ovation. She won 51.8% of the vote Saturday.
