Authorities charged a former prison food worker with dumping a poisonous tile cleaner into a 30-pound container of peanut butter at San Quentin Prison. Byron McGee, 32, of Fairfax appeared in Marin Municipal Court, where he was charged with willfully poisoning food with the intent of injuring a human being, James Finnegan, chief investigator for the Marin County district attorney’s office, said. McGee was held in Marin County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail and was scheduled to enter a plea on Monday to the felony charge. The peanut butter was poisoned on Nov. 25 and was confiscated before it was eaten, Finnegan said. McGee was dismissed from the prison but was not arrested until the investigation was completed, he said.
