The two companies said they plan to form a joint venture to produce semiconductors in the United States. Several sites are still being considered for the venture’s manufacturing plant. The companies said that the selection would be made “shortly” and that construction would begin late this year. In Tokyo, a Sharp spokesman said the site would be selected by the end of June. RCA would own 51% of the new company, to be named RCA Sharp Microelectronics. Sharp would own 49%.
