5Linda Creed, a six-year veteran of the Orange County Transit District, has been hired as Whittier’s first transportation manager.

Creed, 29, was hired by the city late last month, primarily to oversee the start-up of the city’s first mini-bus system, which should be operating by mid-May.

Proposals from four companies interested in operating the bus line are being evaluated by the council. A public hearing on the proposed bus routes is set for 4 p.m. Monday in the committee room of City Hall.

Officials believe a bus line will make it easier for residents to reach the city’s two main shopping areas--the Whittwood Mall on the city’s east side and Uptown Village, a string of stores near Whittier College.

While at the Orange County Transit District, Creed worked in operations, planning and finances and grants, which was her final position before taking the Whittier job.

Creed’s starting salary is $41,000 a year.
