Fans Urged to Use Car Pools, Buses for Padres’ Games

With a sell-out crowd of 58,000 expected for the San Diego Padres’ home opener Monday, the San Diego Police Department and stadium officials are urging those attending the game to car-pool or take mass transit to prevent severe traffic and parking problems.

San Diego Transit will operate “Padre Express” buses from five locations throughout the county at 5 and 6 p.m. the day of the game. Fares are $2 one way and $3.50 for a round trip. For more information, call San Diego Transit.

For those driving to the game, stadium officials recommend that each vehicle carry at least three passengers, because the parking lot can only hold 17,000 cars. The lot will open at 3 p.m., and fans are advised to arrive as early as possible to ensure a parking space. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.

Because large crowds are expected for the entire home stand, mass transit or car-pooling is recommended for all games.
