Carter’s Proud Amy’s Arrest
Former President Jimmy Carter said Friday that it was daughter Amy’s own idea to demonstrate and be arrested in front of the South African Embassy and that he is proud of her.
Amy, 17, was arrested last week for demonstrating within 500 feet of the embassy. She is one of the more than 1,500 people taken into custody near the embassy during the last three months for their opposition to South Africa’s apartheid policy.
Appearing on “The CBS Morning News,” Carter said he personally has no plans to join others in demonstrating before the embassy.
