Fund Raising Among the ‘Federals’

Share

Federals--military and civilian--employed in Orange County contributed more than half a million dollars to charities during their recent Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). Led by Brig. Gen. W.A. Bloomer, commander, El Toro Marine Corps Air Base, CFC volunteers and donors contributed to charities that belong to the United Way, the National Health Agencies, and a long list of others.

In terms of numbers of people helped, the CFC (separate from the United Way campaign), is the largest fund drive here. It is also the most democratic, as federal givers specify how their money is to be used.

With all the “unpleasantries” directed at government personnel, around April 15 especially, I want people to know that we American Federals are part of this dynamic community; we volunteer our time, money and services in many ways; from the Marines at El Toro, the sailors at Seal Beach, the IRS personnel in Laguna Beach (they need a pat on the back more than most), and the Postal Service workers throughout the county.

I am proud to be a “Federal,” I’m proud of the CFC. I wish more people knew about us and the campaign.
