Work Under Way on Data Center at Pendleton

Construction has begun on a $6.6-million data processing center to house the Regional Automated Services Center on a five-acre hillside site in the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton. Completion is scheduled in fall.
Four wings, two one-story and the others two-story, each to contain a separate department and all utilizing a centralized computer network, will radiate from a landscaped central courtyard. The computer room in the inner core of the 50,000-square-foot building can be converted into an emergency bomb shelter.
The project is being built for the Western Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, San Bruno. The architect is Leidenfrost/Horowitz of Burbank and the general contractor is Avedon Corp.
