Pepperdine Wins 2 Magazine Awards

Oasis, a feature magazine run by students at Pepperdine University, has won regional and national college journalism awards.

The 1984 fall and winter issues earned Oasis the award for “best all-around magazine” in the Western Region in the annual Mark of Excellence competition sponsored by the Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists.

The region is composed of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada. The editor for the fall issue was senior journalism and English major Mychel Walker of Portland, Ore. The editor for the winter issue was communications graduate student Juanie Lane of Lompoc.

The magazine also was named a Pacemaker, one of four publications in the United States honored each year by the American Newspaper Publishers Assn. and the Associated College Press.
