Plot to Subvert Court Charged
An alleged plot to take control of the Union City Municipal Court and Police Department to shield gambling and narcotics rackets was smashed by raids that netted 40 suspects, a prosecutor said today.
Hudson County Prosecutor Harold J. Ruvoldt Jr. said wiretaps in an investigation of a gambling operation and another involving drugs picked up conversations “looking toward the subversion” of the court and Police Department “for the purpose of protecting . . . illegal enterprises.” A special grand jury will consider the case.
