Barkeley to Be New President of...

Lear Siegler Inc., lining up a management succession behind the company’s longtime chairman and president, Robert T. Campion, on Monday named Norman A. Barkeley president.

Campion, 63, will remain chairman and chief executive of the Santa Monica-based diversified manufacturer. The company, which produces aerospace, automotive and other industrial products, has a mandatory retirement age of 65, a spokesman said.

Barkeley, 55, a 29-year employee of the company, has been executive vice president of Lear Siegler since December, 1983. He headed the company’s aerospace group as corporate vice president and previously had responsibility for automotive operations. A successor to Barkeley was not named.

Campion, who joined the company in 1957, was named president and chief executive in 1971 and was elevated to the additional post of chairman in 1974. Under his direction, Lear Siegler has continued to build a broad portfolio of companies and now manufactures products as diverse as computer terminals, car seats, aircraft and ironing boards. In its fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, the company earned $23.1 million on sales of $601.4 million.
