After a deadlock this week, the Carson City Council postponed selection of a new mayor until May.
Council members--with Sylvia Muise absent--split 2 to 2 over whether to reelect incumbent Kay Calas. Councilwoman Vera Robles DeWitt and Calas supported her candidacy and Councilmen Walter J. Egan and Thomas Mills were in opposition.
Muise, the mayor pro tem, was also nominated but received only Mills’ vote.
As provided in Carson’s municipal code, council members select a new mayor and mayor pro tem each April. The council also failed to agree on a new mayor pro tem.
