Angry residents told the City Council this week that their mail was held up for four days after a dog attacked a carrier, although the U.S. Postal Service never officially notified them. A protest petition signed by 40 residents was presented to Councilman James Ramsey.
City Manager Paul Philips told the group that mail service resumed after a meeting between a city safety officer and postal officials. City personnel are accompanying the carrier on the route.
Service was halted on two blocks of 169th Street starting April 11 after a carrier reported that he had been attacked by a pit bull. Philips said the city is trying to contact the dog’s owner.
Some residents complained that special letters, including checks, had been held up.
In other action this week, the council elected Councilman Harold Hofmann mayor pro tem, succeeding Councilman Terry Birdsall.
