Reagan’s Visit to Germany

Share

Reagan’s decision to honor the German war dead reflects an insensitivity to every American soldier who gave his life for his country during World War II, and those who survived.

May I remind all the readers that he is also honoring the SS Panzer troops of Gen. Karl von Runstedt who captured an American battalion, the 285th Observation, during the breakthrough of the Battle of the Bulge and then proceeded to machine gun the GIs in the snow-filled meadow. To complete the massacre, a German officer then unloaded his Luger at anyone who moved.

Reagan should read up on some of the history of World War II and particularly of the massacre at Malmedy!

As a sergeant with the 286th Observation Battalion sent to replace the decimated 285th, I wish to express my horror and dismay of the President’s ill-advised action.
