A former high school student in San Bernardino who would not sign a form promising good behavior at his graduation rites sued school officials for banning him from the ceremonies last year. The $2-million lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles federal court on behalf of Jay Poffek, 19, alleged that Cajon High School’s requirement that students promise not to disrupt graduation ceremonies by using alcohol or drugs or throwing beach balls, Frisbees or firecrackers is a violation of his civil rights. Poffek, an honors student who now attends San Bernardino Valley College, received his diploma although he was not permitted to take part in the graduation ceremonies, school officials said.
