Driver Craig Hogan Is Killed in Test Run at Laguna Seca
A promising race car driver who was testing a new machine at Laguna Seca Raceway Friday was killed when his car went off the track and crashed into the back of an automobile parked off the course, authorities said.
According to the Monterey County coroner’s office, Craig Hogan, 24, of Lancaster, Pa., had rented the track to test a new Ralt RT-5. He apparently lost control of his car going into a turn.
He was taken by ambulance to Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, hospital officials said.
Hogan, who had hoped to race in the Indianapolis 500, won his first championship at Pocono International Raceway in a Formula Ford when he was 21.
Hogan’s father, E. James Hogan; his mother, Alma Hogan, and his sister were at the track at the time of the accident.
