Linking Taxes Would Help Payers

Share

“Don’t Link Taxes” (Letters, April 7) David E. Ross argues against tying state taxes to federal taxes. It is a moot point whether taxes would be fairer, higher or lower overall, but most taxpayers would probably agree that it would certainly be easier to follow IRA limits and rules if California conformed to the feds in that respect.

Ross also makes the dubious point that Los Angeles would collect taxes on income earned in New York from a transplanted New Yorker. Naturally, each state would still take only its share based upon months lived in each state.
