Decision Applauded

This letter is to congratulate Mr. Alex Spanos on his recent decision not to keep Mr. Chuck Muncie with the San Diego Chargers. All of San Diego should applaud Mr. Spanos’ action because he has shown the Charger fans that he is more interested in the public image of his players than their physical skills.

I can appreciate that this was a most difficult decision for Mr. Spanos to reach because, by canceling Mr. Muncie’s contract, the Chargers lost a great talent. From my recollection, this is the first time a professional football team owner has, in fact, stated that the public image of athletes and the effect that image might have on the youth of a community are more important than the physical skills the athletes might possess.

My hat is off to you, Mr. Spanos. San Diego should be proud of you.
