Colorado was chilled by a snowstorm Saturday, and thunderstorms, high winds and hail pummeled parts of Texas.

Authorities closed sections of Interstate 70 because of the snow and travelers’ advisories were posted for the central and northern mountains. Eight inches of snow fell at Steamboat, seven inches at Craig and six inches at Winter Park, Colo.

Snow also fell in southern Wyoming, and a storm watch was posted for locally heavy snow in the higher elevations of Utah.

Thunderstorms swept southwest Texas, with more than 3 1/2 inches of rain recorded at Cuero. Hail the size of golf balls struck Snyder and Winters, while 60-m.p.h. winds buffeted El Campo.

Meanwhile, the State Patrol closed David City, Neb., to facilitate emergency repairs after a tornado Friday damaged scores of houses, uprooted trees and knocked out power and telephone lines.

“People are only being allowed in to the damaged area if they have passes,” said Cpl. Carl Nedley. “We’re trying to discourage sightseers.”
