Attractive Material Useful for Bulletin Boards, Tack Surface

Share

Robyn S. Hyman of the interior products division of Conwed, 2151 Michaelson Drive, Suite 106, Irvine 92716-1311, suggests the use of Silent 65 by Conwed for tack surfaces for a teen-ager’s bedroom or tack surfaces in general (Dear Dale, March 10, 24). Like acoustic ceiling tile, which I recommended, Silent 65 is made from mineral board, but it is fabric covered for aesthetics as well as keeping the mineral board from chipping.

“Using a ceiling tile is not advisable because they tend to chip and the woman who wrote in asking for help would be vacuuming quite often,” Hyman said. “Silent 65 is dense enough to hang pictures on as well as being an excellent tack surface.”

Typically, Silent 65 is available in 30-inch-wide panels, nine or 10 feet long, with woven or non-woven fabric. Hyman sent along a brochure with color swatches; they are attractive and the product would be suitable for a home office or even a living room, as well as a teen-ager’s room.

The cost is about $3.50 to $4 a square foot, Hyman said. One centrally located supplier is California Wholesale Plywood, 7330 S. Crider Ave., Pico Rivera; Hyman can furnish others for those interested in this product made in St. Paul, Minn.

Two more letters from suppliers who read this column, both on the problem of the San Gabriel Valley resident who wanted privacy for the bedroom window in his apartment (Jan. 13, 1985).

T.J. Owens (that’s what it looks like in his handwritten note) represents Graber Industries Inc., Middleton, Wis., manufacturers of two-inch-wide vertical blinds. The vanes can be adjusted to provide ventilation and privacy. Owens is at Box 3234, Whittier 90605. He sent along a brochure; the blinds look fine to me and might solve the problem of the privacy-seeking apartment dweller.

David Ballard, Phifer Western, 14408 E. Nelson Ave., City of Industry, suggests the use of either Phifer SunScreen or ShadeScreen, available through most screen and glass shops and hardware stores in Southern California.
