Delta Air Lines said its fiscal third-quarter profit fell 22% from a year earlier, when earnings were bolstered by a one-time gain. Delta, based in Atlanta, said net income in the quarter ended March 31 fell to $41.2 million from $52.8 million a year ago. Revenue rose 8% to $1.17 billion from $1.08 billion.

Republic Airlines, Minneapolis, reported a profit of $5.3 million in the first quarter, compared to a loss of $4.1 million a year ago. The latest results included a $6-million gain on the sale of property, equipment and lease rights. Republic’s revenue slipped 3.6% to $380.9 million from $393.6 million a year ago, and its expenses tumbled 5.5% to $375.6 million from $397.7 million.

Quaker Oats reported a 35% increase in third-quarter earnings, due largely to improved operations in the company’s grocery, toy and specialty retail businesses. The Chicago-based company reported net income for the quarter of $36.4 million, up from $26.9 million last year. Sales were $820.5 million, up 1.7% from third-quarter sales of $806.7 million last year.
