Space Post to Be in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —
The Defense Department selected Peterson Air Force Base near Colorado Springs for the headquarters for the newly created U.S. Space Command, Rep. Ken Kramer (R-Colo.) announced today.
The new command will be in charge of all operational U.S. military space systems and missions, including manned military space flights. “Assuming we keep moving forward with (President Reagan’s so-called Star Wars initiative), U.S. Star Shield systems will all be commanded from Colorado,” Kramer said.
