NASA Begins Countdown for 17th Shuttle Mission

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. —
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration on Friday began the countdown for the launching of the 17th shuttle mission, which will carry two satellites and a Spacelab full of science and technology experiments.
Challenger’s electrical power was switched on as the count started at noon. The liftoff is scheduled for noon Monday.
