New Space Command to Be Headquartered in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —
The Defense Department chose Peterson Air Force Base outside Colorado Springs as headquarters for the newly created U.S. Space Command, Rep. Ken Kramer (R-Colo.) said Friday.
The command, approved by President Reagan last November, will be in charge of all operational military space systems and missions, including manned flights, Kramer said. It is scheduled to begin operation Oct. 1.
