Mead Housing Seeks Lots for Small Houses

Mead Housing is actively looking for small lots, 25 and 30 feet wide, in South-Central Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Fernando, Pacoima and “wherever we can find them,” according to Donald B. Nicolson, president of the nonprofit home building firm.

The wide acceptance of its new $49,900, 912-square-foot Eton “starter home” model by young couples, seniors and single adults has been so great that what seemed to be an adequate supply of lots has been exhausted, he said.

Mead pays cash for all lots and Nicolson said there can also be significant tax advantages in giving unoccupied land to the organization. In addition to small lots for the Eton, Mead is looking for lots of all sizes for its other one- and two-story homes.
