Computers and Customs
Travelers planning to enter or leave the United States with personal computers should not do so with machines that have unregistered trademarks, according to the U.S. Customs Service.
Personal computers bought abroad often include unauthorized copies of various trademarked, patented and copyrighted components. Imported items that infringe on the patent rights of products recorded with the Customs Service will not be allowed into the country.
Travelers should watch out for computers made in the Far East or Canada that claim to be Apple- or IBM-compatible, for instance.
