Carnation will sell its scholastic products unit.

Los Angeles-based Carnation, a unit of the Swiss conglomerate Nestle, said it agreed to sell its Herff Jones division for an undisclosed amount to a company headed by A. J. Hackl, president of Herff Jones. Herff Jones, acquired by Carnation in 1974 for about $34 million, manufactures and sells class rings, yearbooks and other specialized products for the educational market.
