The Pocatello, Idaho, company blamed the depressed market for semiconductors. The layoffs will be divided between the headquarters plant and a facility in Santa Clara, where about 190 workers will be affected. About 1,000 employees will remain on the payroll at each of the plants, Gould-AMI said, adding that it hoped the staff cuts would position it to survive at least into 1986. It was a blow to the Pocatello area, which has lost about 4,000 jobs--primarily in manufacturing industries--over the past six years.
