The average American taxpayer would meet his tax obligations to federal, state and local governments Tuesday if every dollar earned since Jan. 1 had been paid to the tax collector, a tax watchdog group said. “The average taxpayer now works 120 days (each year) for the revenue collector,” the Tax Foundation said in Washington. “For nine of the past 10 years, that obligation took even longer. As recently as 1981, the U.S. worker put in 126 days--until May 6--just to pay tax bills,” the group said.
