An AIDS expert has warned 350 University of California, Berkeley, students, staff and faculty members they were “all potentially at risk for AIDS.” “But if you are at risk, it is only from your sexual activities,” added Dr. Paul Volberding, co-director of the Acquired Immune Deficiency clinic at San Francisco General Hospital. The session with students stemmed from the first AIDS death a month ago of a Cal student. The University received calls from panicked members of the campus community, Dr. James Brown, director of the student health service, said. “It was very surprising how little information people had,” Brown said. Volberding told audience members they did not “need to be concerned who is sitting next to you on the bus. But you do need to be concerned about who you are sleeping with.”
