A goodwill ambassador from Brooklyn brought some reminders of home--ingredients for an egg cream, a Nathan’s hot dog and stick ball and bat--to a reunion of ex-New Yorkers in downtown Los Angeles. New York state Sen. Donald Halperin also delivered a “tree grown in Brooklyn,” bottle caps for skully (a game played on the street in Brooklyn) and other memorabilia from childhood days. About 1,000 nostalgic New Yorkers had made reservations to attend the reunion at the California Clothing Market, some paying $100 a ticket to benefit charities including the New York City High School Scholarship Fund.
