Wyle Laboratories, El Segundo, completed its acquisition of Los Angeles-based Applied Research Inc. for an undisclosed number of shares of Wyle common stock. Applied Research will become an operating division of Wyle’s scientific services and systems group.
Bechtel Constructors Corp., Los Angeles, will perform construction work on a power station at Nucla, Colo., under a contract with the Colorado-Ute Electric Assn. The value of the contract wasn’t disclosed. Colorado-Ute is converting the 25-year-old electrical plant to a new coal-burning technology that it says will reduce air pollution and fuel costs. The cost of the renovation is $86 million.
Los Angeles-based Quotron Systems Inc. signed a $1.75-million agreement with the Midwest Stock Exchange to supply financial information services and custom software development for the exchange’s new trading floor in Chicago.
Applied Solar Energy Corp. received a $6.25-million order for gallium arsenide space solar cells from an undisclosed aerospace contractor. The City of Industry-based company said it has substantially completed a $3.25-million capital expansion in anticipation of the order, which could be the first of a series that will total as much as $20 million during the next several years.
Brajdas Corp. of Beverly Hills has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Cypress Electronics Inc., San Jose, for $4 million in cash and notes.
Sun Valley-based General Design Inc., a maker of gyroscopes and other aviation and aerospace devices, has been acquired by Cleveland-based Midland Ross Corp. for an undisclosed amount. General Design’s operations in Southern California and Phoenix will become part of Midland-Ross’ Janitrol Aero division.
Maxicare Louisiana Inc., a subsidiary of Maxicare Health Plans Inc. of Los Angeles, received approval from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to operate a health maintenance organization. The HMO is expected eventually to serve 50,000 people in the New Orleans area.
