Tustin Salesman Thwarts Auto Burglary Attempt
A Tustin man who discovered that his car had been broken into captured one of two burglary suspects early Tuesday, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Lt. Dick Olson said David Edward Dell, a 28-year-old salesman, scuffled with one suspect and managed to hold him until deputies arrived at his apartment. An alleged accomplice got away, Olson said.
David Eric Lockard, 19, of Riverside was arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He was held on $10,000 bail at Orange County Jail pending his arraignment today in Central Municipal Court, Olson said.
Shortly after midnight, Dell walked out of his apartment at 12939 Newport Ave., headed for the laundry room and noticed someone in his car, Olson said. As he approached the car, he saw a door open and another man kneeling on the ground beside it.
When Dell asked what they were doing, Olson said, they ran. Dell chased and caught one man.
Dell was treated at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange for cuts and bruises and later released, Olson said.
