120 Arrested in S.F. in Protest Against Nicaragua Embargo
Protests against the Reagan Administration’s Central American policies, and particularly his trade embargo against Nicaragua, led to 120 more arrests this morning as demonstrators blocked entries to the Federal Building, authorities reported.
With the arrests today, police said a total of 378 people--including anti-war activist Daniel Ellsberg--had been arrested since the noisy but peaceful protest began Tuesday morning.
A crowd estimated by police at 500 listened to speeches outside the building this morning. A short while later, a group of 50 to 60 demonstrators climbed over a metal barricade and linked arms along the stone steps on the south side of the building. Police slowly unlinked the human chain, placing demonstrators under arrest at a rate of about two a minute.
